In the name of the Lord, Amen.
Whereas Jan Roelofsen Elting being now ready to depart for Holland is considering the perils of the seas, the injuries (injurie) from heaven, the certainty of death, therefore desiring to dispose of his estate during his life-time wishing that this instrument shall be in force as a testament or codicil and last will in proper form that, after his death, his wife Jacomyntie Sleght shall remain in the full possession of either lands or other effects whatever they may be or however named, only that she shall pay, after her death, to the children by her marriage with Gerrit Foocken, deceased, the amount of two hundred sch. of wheat for their father's patrimony. Jan Elton, too, is bound to do the same in case he should be the survivor, he will remain in possession under the above condition, and also pay out to the above children the quantity of two hundred sch. of wheat, at the time of his remarrying or if the children desire the same after their mother's death.
For the purpose of securing the said two hundred sch. of wheat the land at Horly remains mortgaged till the full and effective payment, and is not permitted to be alienated until the said amount shall have been paid. Promising, on both sides, to comply with the above. In testimony of the truth have subscribed to the same in the presence of two magistrates this September 30, 1679 at Kingston.
