  4. [S2719] El Paso Herald, El Paso, Texas, Wed., 6 May 1914 p. 7. "The funeral of J. D. Soper, who died at Mountainair, N. M., Saturday, was held Wednesday afternoon at 3 oclock. Services were held in the chapel at 708 N Stanton Street and were conducted by Rev. Miles Hanson, of the Congregational church, the choir of the Calvary-Houston Square Baptist church furnishing the music. Interment was made in Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Soper was a prominent merchant of Mountainair, where he was general manager of the Wm. McCoy general merchandise store. He had been southwestern manager of the Hibbard, Spencer Bartlett Co., of Chicago, and was one of the oldest travelling men in the southwest. He had been a resident of El Paso for about 10 years and was well known throughout the southwest. A widow, four sons and three daughters survive him". Online Newspapers.com.
