He was a child of John Walsh and Johanna Holahan; "1850. John Welsh came shortly after the Barrys, to whom he was related by marriage; but did not take up a farm for a long time." Worked for Crane [in Sackville], eventually purchased part of the Mansfield farm. Children John ("the Yankee"), Edward, Michael, Mrs. Hennessy [Eleanor] and Mary (second wife of Benjamin Carrigan.)2 
Edward Walsh was also known as Welsh (variant.)3 
He was a blacksmith.4
