"Death of Mrs. J.W. Vandeveer, who has been quite feeble for some time, died at her home a mile and a half south of this city, Sunday, May 17. She was one of the oldest of the women pioneers of this county, having come here with her parents in 1864. She was buried from the Congregational church, Tuesday afternoon, Rev. W.F. Minty officiating, the M.E. Church being in the hands of [t]he decorators. The G.A.R. and W.R.C. attended in a body and acted as an escort for the funeral cortege.
Harrie M. Quick, the subject of this sketch, was born in Potter county, Pennsylvania, on the 29th day of February 1840, being 63 years, 2 months and 17 days of age at her death. On the 1st day of January, 1870, she was united in marriage to J.W. Vandeveer. When 13 years of age she united with the M.E. church and has been a continuous and faithful member ever since. Her religious faith never waivered, and though suffering much, she often expressed a willingness to go hence whenever God should see fit. Her death was peaceful and easy and of her it may well be said: 'Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord.' "
